Laurie was returning to her car after lunch at a local mall when she tripped over an unmarked bump where a raised walkway had been partially removed. Her resulting fall onto the cement floor caused an elbow fracture that required two surgeries and months of physical therapy.
Laurie contacted the insurer for the mall, who informed her that they saw nothing wrong with the unmarked bump and refused to pay any of her substantial medical bills. LH then retained Mike Maxwell to press her claim with the insurance company. Mike retained a photogrammatist and an expert in kinematics, mechanics and human factors to inspect and evaluate the safety of the site where LH fell.
As a result of these efforts, Mike was able to settle the case at mediation for $310,000.
